Podchaser to these Podcasts

If you’re like me, which I’m totally 100% sure you are, I always have to pick the right playlist on Spotify before taking off to reach my destination. Most of the time I pick the same playlist of my favorite Island Reggae artists like Sammy Johnson, Tenelle, Fia and many others. However, I wanted to listen to something new and so I turned to Podcasts. I have found some very entertaining, interesting and in some ways educating. I have compiled a list of some of my favorite Podcasts for you, that I listen to on Spotify, in case you wanted to hop on the Podcast train or are looking for a new Podcast to listen to.

'Anatomy of Murder' is a podcast that examines homicide cases, hosted by former New York City homicide prosecutor and host of Investigation Discovery’s True Conviction, Anna-Sigga Nicolazzi and Emmy award winning investigative journalist and former Depuity Sheriff Scott Weinberger. They team up and take listeners behind the scenes of homicide cases and share insight from the victim’s family members, the prosecutor involved in the case and/or members of law enforcement. Along with their podcast, they also have a website, anatomyofmurder.com,where they list photos of the victims that are talked about with a brief summary of each podcast episode. From episode one you’ll not only be eager to listen to more but you’ll feel as if you’re a part of the case from a visual aspect.

'Crime Junkie' is a true crime podcast where host Ashley Flowers and co-host Brit Prawat get together and talk about several crime stories they’re obsessing over. They keep you engaged from the beginning of each episode and make it feel like you’re surrounded by a group of friends who obsess over crime television shows like Criminal Minds and Law and Order Special Victims Unit. They also have a website, crimejunkiepodcast.com, where they not only list their episodes but they sell merch for crime junkie fans and more. One of the cool things they have on their website is, allowing their listeners to engage with them by suggesting a case so that they can feature it in one of their future episodes.

'Murderous Minors' is another crime podcast that is hosted by Simone Mathews. This podcast tells real stories of children as young as 10 killing other children and/or family members. I know, who would want to listen to a podcast that tells stories about children killing people but my reason behind listening to this podcast is, it makes me aware that not only adults but children are just as capable of committing a crime.

My last crime podcast I listen to is 'Female Criminals' which examines the psychology, motivations and atrocities of these female felons. Not to sound psycho but I enjoy this podcast because it is not just another crime story but a crime story telling us that women aren’t just seen as the victim or damsel in distress.

On to a different take of reading a book, I came across a short story by Stephen King called 'Strawberry Spring'. This is a scripted podcast that is set in the sixties revolution on campus of Sharon College. This scripted podcast features 8 chapters or in this case 8 episodes of a modern day Jack the Ripper. If you are a book lover or just want to enjoy an audio type version of a short story, I recommend playing this. It will have you listening, eagerly waiting to discover the killer.

'Hawai’i Kine Tings' podcast has become one of my favorite podcasts to listen to for so many reasons. One being that it feels like home when hosts Coby and Masao talk about all the Hawaiian Kine Tings (Hawaiian Kind Things) because it reminds me of sitting with my family at a party or just sitting at home talking about all things Hawaiian. In these episodes Coby and Masao break down pretty much the basics you need to know about Hawaiian culture. I catch myself laughing with them while they talk about home and it takes me back for a short while. They are super entertaining and fun and definitely bring the vibe and atmosphere of growing up in a Hawaiian home. You can also check out their website where they sell merch at shophaole.com!

On a more serious and more deep note, 'Culturised with Makani Tabura' podcast, introduces the Hawai’i not many visitors or even local Hawaiian residents know, hear about or experience. On this podcast many guests that are featured and more deeply cultured in certain aspects of Hawaiian Culture share their mana’o (knowledge) on what makes up Native Hawaiian culture. This includes history, language, arts, education and the people. Feel free to check up the website at www.culturised.com.

Last but not least, 'Ghostlore of Hawai’i: Paranormal Paradise' is one I enjoy not just for entertainment but because in Hawaiian Culture our myths and legends are not just stories but true stories. Many people see Hawai’i for its beautiful beaches, dancers and Aloha spirit. However, underneath that beauty lies Hawai’i’s haunted history. Hawaiians believe that certain spirits still roam certain places around the islands but not much is shared because not all believe in ghosts or tales like the ones unknown in our beautiful paradise.
